THOSE who spend RM150 and above on Penang travel packages can now redeem RM100 Shopee cash vouchers.

A total of 15,000 of such vouchers are up for grabs in the ‘Jom! Experience Penang with Shopee’ campaign which is jointly organised by the Penang government and online shopping site Shopee.

Shopee Malaysia business development leader Wong Chee Mun said users could find over 150 different hotel and attraction packages by accessing the ‘Jom! Experience Penang’ page with the Shopee microsite.Wong: This campaign is catering to domestic travellers.

“This campaign is catering to domestic travellers.

“The RM100 cash voucher can be deducted right away upon the purchase of travel package at the shopping site,” he said at the campaign launch at The Top@Komtar on Wednesday.

Penang tourism and creative economy committee chairman Yeoh Soon Hin said the campaign was part of the state’s tourism recovery plan to revive the state’s tourism industry and support local industry players.

“We agree to the partnership because we recognise the growing potential of e-commerce platforms and increasing usage of technology in our daily lives.

“We have set into motion a joint tourism campaign boasting online travel packages together with Penang’s travel associations,” he said.

He said the associations include Malaysian Association of Tour and Travel Agents (MATTA), Malaysian Inbound Tourism Association (MITA), Malaysian Chinese Tourism Association (MCTA), Malaysia Inbound China Association (Mica), Malaysian Association of Hotels (MAH), Malaysia Budget Hotel Association’s (MyBHA) and Association of Tourist Attractions Penang (ATAP).

Yeoh said the state had also invested RM3.7mil on e-commerce platforms under the tourism arm to build resilience and accelerate the reboot of affected tourism sectors.

“This collaboration offers travellers an alternative to book a memorable staycation.

“It helps develop our promotional activities via varied e-commerce platforms which are becoming increasingly important since the Covid-19 pandemic.

“Travel agents, attractions and hotels can now take advantage of the campaign to digitise their businesses and tap into new potential customers,” he said.

Yeoh said the campaign would complement the state’s aspiration to become ‘A Smart Tourism Destination’ under the Penang Tourism Master Plan.

“Under this thrust, we emphasise on the adoption of smart technology in tourism.
